Celebrating the Life of Joe Kapp |
|
It is with deep gratitude for his many contributions to the Latinx community, that we share the passing of one of our longest standing scholarship champions and fellow Cal alum and coach, Joe Kapp “The Toughest Chicano”.
Born in New Mexico and raised by his Mexican-American mother, Joe and his family donate 100% of the proceeds of his memoir to fund the CLAA scholarship in his name. In his later years, Kapp remained connected with CLAA and the students who benefited from his philanthropy. Beyond our CLAA community, Kapp made his mark on the professional football field with the Minnesota Vikings and Boston Patriots.
Kapp will be dearly missed by his loved ones and all whom he touched during his life. To continue to honor Joe Kapp’s legacy, we invite you to consider making a financial contribution to CLAA’s Joe Kapp Scholarship. We extend our most sincere condolences and appreciation to the Kapp Family for their continued support.

Alzheimer’s won’t stop ex-Vikings QB Joe Kapp from joining Super Bowl IV teammates
Joe Kapp’s son has been reminding the former quarterback for several months about the upcoming 50-year reunion for the Vikings’ first Super Bowl team, but it hasn’t sunk in. There is a reason for that. Kapp, 81, has Alzheimer’s Disease and has difficulty remembering things. The hope is some memories will be stirred when Kapp runs into former teammates at the Super Bowl IV reunion. Order your copy of Joe’s memoir now
Joe Kapp and his co-authors are donating proceeds from The Toughest Chicano to help fund scholarships for first time Latinx UC Berkeley students through the Joe Kapp and Family Scholarship Fund. |
